My primary research along with "YouTuber" interviews gave me a clear understanding of what can be potentially popular on YouTube which is why I came up with my idea so quickly. However without social media, popularity would be almost impossible if you are a new animator so understanding all social media marketing strategies is vital which has resulted in 92 views in a week. Using the "Boost" tool on my Facebook post has resulted in 5 extra "likes" after choosing the smallest budget of £7 for a week of promotion to allegedly up to 2100 people. It actually only reached 998 people meaning it's not an effective tool if you have a small budget. So instead I'll be using the YouTube Fan Finder advertising tool because even though it will only advertise to five people it will get the same interaction as the Boost tool did for me but it's free.
The YouTube algorithm is causing a big problem to animators who want to get recognised but can't get around the length of time to create videos. However I'm going to create short twenty second videos in between the month it takes to upload each full episode. This way it keeps fans interested and follows the algorithm. I'll set up more social media accounts like Instagram where these short videos will thrive on.
Nonetheless, my research has shown that it seems YouTube is no longer the place for new animators because the algorithm doesn't account for how animators work so won't prioritse high quality videos. This means YouTube is no longer celebrating creativity, unlike Vimeo which promotes videos based on their content. Vimeo could be the new place for animation, meaning people's intentions of wanting views could change into wanting to be offered a job or an award based on their video and change people's idea of a successful animation from online popularity to being professionally recognised. However in regards to YouTube, to sum up how to gain views for your animation this is what I feel is required: A series of frequent relatable comedy animations + consistent social media promotion = potential video popularity.
